Find Yourself

This may be extremely existential but training your body should improve who you are.  The issue here is that if you do not have a handle on who you are then you will be trying to fill a space in yourself with training your body and it won't work or definitely won't work as well as it could and should.  Find yourself.  This will lead you towards your goals.  If you are having trouble finding goals the first thing to do is look inward.  Work on a personal mission statement.  What you stand for, and why.  This will make working out so much easier when you have a more clear picture of what you are looking to gain from it.  We don't have to have it all figured out, and in fact we most likely never will but that is why it is so much fun.  It is constant evolution and we make improvements on ourselves daily hence changing who we are and potentially changing our path in the gym and out.  Find yourself and you will find fitness, wellness and happiness.
